Another day, another newspaper closing down. If you thought there was any comfort in Prince George being a bigger city than Fort St. John or Dawson Creek, the fact that Kamloops is now without a newspaper should give you pause.
The official community plan meeting was last night. The Ginter’s Green group made up the majority of the attendees so obviously Ginter’s was front-and-centre. As I’ve said before, the challenge here is that much of the land they want to protect as greenspace is not owned by the city, but rather private developers, so there’s a limited amount of levers the city has — which doesn’t mean none. One thing that came up is requiring trees to be left on properties which doesn’t maintain the area as a park, but does keep it… green. If you’ve ever taken part in a corporate visioning exercise as a company retreat you will know the general vibes of what went on — sticky notes, stickers, comments. They were giving out Mr. PG stickers. Here’s some photos I took:

The OCP event was at the Two Rivers Gallery so I finally checked out their current exhibit on plastic waste which is worth your time (and entry is by donation):

The news about the news in Kamloops is definitely worrying, and has me thinking how do we prevent the same from happening here? Are there concrete ways we as individuals can support our local news? I'd love to support our local news but don't really know how.
