Happy Friday! I’ve decided to take the next week off of writing this newsletter. It’s a long weekend, I am traveling next week, I’m needing to clear my head a bit after coverage of the Fort Nelson wildfires all week in my day job and it’s been a bit of a slow news week in Prince George which I think can change. It’s too early to call it for the summer break because there’s still city and school district business to get to but it is time for a short hiatus. As always, if something happens that I really want to write about you’ll get something but for now the plan is to return sometime after May 28. Be good! Look after yourselves!
The State of the North
Every year, Northern Development Initaitive Trust releases a State of the North report. They just released their latest, based on 2023 data in a new digital dashboard which you can visit here and read about here. It’s largely economic focused but it has some interesting populations tuff, as well, like recording Northern B.C.’s population at 355,000. It is quite something to consider that somewhere around two thirds of the land mass of B.C. contains a population just slightly bigger than Burnaby. And that the growth rate last year, of 1.9 per cent, is the highest it’s been since the early 2000s!
