Bruce Wayne wants you to be able to ride an e-scooter
And Kamloops spends a lot more money on the arts than we do. Will we stand for it?
I’m skipping the various political candidate announcements beause I plan to do a full roundup after they are all finalized this week.
It’s council day (meetings are usually Mondays but it was moved to Wednesday this week).
Here’s a preview:
A local man (named Bruce Wayne!) wants Prince George to take part in a provincial pilot on integrating electric scooters into daily traffic. Here’s more information about the program itself. If we were to sign on, we’d be the only pale north of Kelowna to do so.
Here’s another report on the move to having bylaw officers carry batons, pepper spray and handcuffs going before council. Here’s a picture included in the report of weapons bylaw officers have… collected? Seized? It’s not quite clear what (the report says “located”):
A coalition of the city’s major artistic groups, which includes the Community Arts Council, Theatre Northwest, the Coldsnap Festival and the Prince George Symphony Orchestra is asking for more financial support for their projects. In their report they argue that Prince George severely underspends on the arts, with the Canadian and B.C. average per capita being $25 with Prince George down at $7 per capita. Just to rub it in, they point to Kelowna and Kamloops who spend $44 and $80 per capita, respectively. I’m not sure the source of those dollar figures, though I did find a Toronto report on that city’s efforts to hit a $25 per capita point.
News roundup:

The city had two resolutions, one to have mandatoy Holocaust education in elementary schools which was referred to the UBCM executive, and another to find a way to recoup the lost taxes when childcare centres operate in schools (which are not taxable), which failed to pass.
