Short newsletter today. An observation from listening to the Cougars games in Portland — they play a lot more modern music in Portland, and definitely more in the indie/pop genre. In Prince George it’s Guns N’ Roses and Sandstorm, in Portland you’re hearing One Direction and that TikTok song from the Stranger Things guy. I mean, they still have plenty of Black Sabbath and Black Betty but, yeah. Different places are different!
Cougars coach Mark Lamb has been named both coach and executive of the year by the WHL.
I’ve gotten a few emails about the School District 57 budget cuts. Here’s the most comprehensive write-up I’ve seen. I’ll probably tackle this in the next couple days.
Austin Road elementary is being demolished and replaced with a new daycare building.
B.C.’s new short-term rental rules are now in effect. As of my writing this, there are still at least 54 “entire homes” available for rent on Airbnb in Prince George. This doesn’t necessarily mean folks are breaking the rules — people can put their homes up for rent with the intention of leaving when it is taken, as I understand it. But assuming these are legal, it also indicates that people looking to stay here for several days might be ok. We’ll see.
