Get your goat

Plus the geese are back

In Friday’s newsletter I shared an all-time great Facebook post:

Fortunately, the person who made that posting was kind enough to indulge my desire to meet this goat, despite her concerns. I went out, did a short interview … then spent about twenty minutes trying to figure out how to get out of there as the goat (named Gord-o) continuously headbutted me, all the way back to my car where I was still not left alone:

Upon arriving home I showed the footage to my wife, whose uncle raised goats, and she informed me that Gord-o was playing — if the goat had been upset, I would have been kicked and rammed hard, as it was he was just trying to engage in play and I should have given out scritches. Regrets! But I did get a story out of it and you can see Gord-o’s behaviour in the embedded video:

The culprit turned out to be an unknown goat who had moved in while they were away — and showed no signs of wanting to leave.

Shortly after that Gord-o was sent to a (non-meat) farm with other goats:

Quick news:

• City council is tonight but I already wrote my preview in the Friday letter. They are giving out another Freedom of the City honour tonight, which is awfully fast since the last one just happened.

• New hospital equipment is reducing the need for surgeries.

• Two Prince George residents have added their names to the list of people who have completed all six major world marathons.

• The UHNBC drummers held a three-year celebreation of healthcare workers. There was also a Special Olympics inclusion fair.

• We’re one year away from two major skiing events.

• Celebrating Bridgette Moran.

• “People think overdoses are suicide but they’re really getting killed by fentanyl.”

• Delta Police sent some officers all the way up to Prince George to make an arrest which, I confess, I didn’t realize was a thing that could happen (it is rare).

• The Spruce Kings season has wrapped (they are in the playoffs).

• I found this post from someone who spent spring break in the city interesting, in part because they didn’t just complain about it.
