Let’s start by following up on the provincial news of a split in the B.C. Conservatives. As of this writing, no one else has joined the three Independents who say they aren’t forming a party at this point, but Prince George-Valemount MLA Rosalyn Bird — unlike other colleagues who were asked — also didn’t say she wouldn’t:
As a more general comment, Bird is really coming out strong as an MLA who doesn’t do much communication, period. If anyone can point me to a channel of communications where she’s saying anything about her work for the riding, please let me know, because I can’t find it and most articles when local media reaches out to her for anything specific seems to come back with no comment. On Facebook I see one post since January.
In federal news, the Citizen has a breakdown of how the Liberal leadership race shook out locally:
Across both Prince George ridings, 489 votes were cast: 418 for Carney (85.5 per cent), 43 for Freeland (8.8 per cent), 14 for Gould (2.87 per cent) and 14 for Baylis (2.86 per cent)
Will it translate to any momentum for the party locally? It’s an uphill climb.

I find Bird's lack of communication frustrating, especially in comparison with Giddens. When she was running we met for coffee, chatted at events, and exchanged some text messages and, despite our deep political differences, I was impressed at her willingness to engage with me. Once she won the election she stopped engaging, including ignoring my texts and emails. Now, Im not sure what she does unless I catch glimpses of her in other MLAs' photos.
Bird has to be one of the least qualified MLAs to ever represent Prince George. It's clear that she's in way over her head and just trying to skate by. Turns out representing people is more work than just posting bigoted missives and wild conspiracy theories on Facebook.
