Here’s another sign of spring for you: Public washrooms exist again. At least, some do, in the limited places we have them. Here’s a handy timeline of when you can expet to be able to go.
Also, open burning bans are set to come into place, earlier than before. I checked the notices from the past four years, and the earliest prior to this I found was April 30 so this is significantly moved up. (Small) campfires will be allowed but fireworks and burn barrels are out.
Some people are reporting tulips in the city already and as much as that is nice, it is also a sign of climate change. Just to undescore the weather whiplash we’ve been getting, February, overall, was actually -1.9 C colder than normal in the city according to the stats included in this article.
In completely unrelated news, I find this annual bed bug ranking very strange. It’s based solely on a single company’s calls for service. I mean, obviously, it’s a way for them to drum up some free publicity and here I am linking to it, so there you go.

It’s really something to me that the previous mayor was a former cabinet minister with the ear of policymakers across the province and was voted out — and his replacement voted in — in no small part because the Gold Pan sign was moved.

I was in Vanderhoof in February and we stopped at a local park for a break. I had to use the washroom and went to see if the facilities were open, figuring they were closed for the winter. I was shocked that not only were the park bathrooms open, but they were heated and fully operational for winter. Wish we could have something like that here in PG!
