Somehow, I never really got on board with Halloween for adults. I enjoy Halloween, but the limited version I remember growing up: Kids going trick or treating and adults giving out candy. I’m into that! But I just have never gotten excited about dressing myself or my house up (which makes me feel like the Halloween Grinch as all the neighbours starting putting their big displays as early as Oct. 1).
But that doesn’t mean I don’t enjoy seeing other people have fun! One of my favourite Halloween traditions now is checking out the annual mundane Halloween costume contest in Japan, which features such gems as “person who wants to use every bit of toothpaste in the tube” and “branch manager who decided to help out at the cash register”
I also love it when people come up with hyper-local costume ideas or jump on the annual memes, as seen here:
Side note: I am not Northern Capital Memes and I am figuring out whether I should rename this newsletter to avoid confusion, but it’s the best thing I could think of.
So where are people trick or treating in prince george this year?
The other tradition I like is tallying up the number of trick or treaters who come to my house and comparing it both to past years and friends and family. It’s interesting to see how the numbers change by time and place and fortunately we have the annual treat counter to keep track.
Share your costumes, treat counts, etc in the comments
Anyways, the point of this newsletter is not just for me to talk at you but to also give you a place to talk at me/each other about the community. So would love to see/hear how Halloween is treating you this year - comments open below!
