Conifex — which you might know as a sawmill company in Mackenzie — has lost a bid to open a crypto-mine in the Salmon Valley in court:
Justice Michael Tammen says in a ruling issued Friday that the government's move in December 2022 to pause new connections for cryptocurrency mining for 18 months was "reasonable" and not "unduly discriminatory."
B.C. Hydro CEO Christopher O'Riley had told the court in an affidavit that the data centres proposed by Conifex would have consumed 2.5 million megawatt-hours of electricity each year.
That's enough to power and heat more than 570,000 apartments, according to data on the power provider's website.
Pretty interesting issue, and yet another point in the “will we have enough electricty to power all these new industires” discussion. Read more here.

At My Prince George Now, Brendan Panliw reports:

Gosh, will it be an early spring?
I completely failed to share the city’s excellent take on whether or not Groundhog’s Day would reveal an early spring:
What’s up with the lack of available commercial space downtown?
In his most recent newsletter
writes about something I’ve seen floating around before: Despite the number of vacant bulidings downtown, it is surprisingly difficult to find any spaces to open a new business in the area:I say this as a small service-business owner who operates out of his basement’s spare bedroom - it breaks my heart. Myself and one of my colleagues in the freelance space have been searching for over 2 years now for something that fits our pretty modest needs (and a relatively healthy budget) and despite these vacancies, we’ve hit only brick walls or wild figures on spaces that fall short of our needs.
He writes about some other things, too!

Not really but everytime I see artist/newsletter writer
