Northern Health defends itself in lawsuit from musician Amy Blanding
Powder King is opening Friday
As previously reported, musician Amy Blanding filed a lawsuit against Northern Health in October alleging she was effectively dismissed from her position there after the health authority got complaints about one of her performances.
Now, CBC reports, Northern Health has filed its response:
In reply, the health authority says Blanding resigned after being removed from a temporary promotion — and even if she hadn't, there was "just cause to terminate" her employment.
"Although the performance and social media posts were made in [Blanding's] personal time, given the unique office that [she] held as IDEA director and as a senior leader within the organization, NHA had concerns that members of the public would attribute these positions to NHA," the response reads.
Full report is here. None of this has been heard by or ruled on by a judge, yet.
Cabinet construction
David Eby unveiled his new cabinet yesterday. Ahead of time, Shirley Bond offered her thoughts, pointing out the difficulty of having northern representation when the area is pretty much all Conservative MLAs. As it stands, Eby did what he could to get a northern voice on, with the closest ones to PG being Tamara Davidson, the MLA for North Coast-Haida Gwaii, who is now in the role of environment minister.

If Northern BC is concerned about "representation", maybe they should stop electing conservatives who end up in opposition?
