The ability to find childcare actually is worse in Prince George
And Deadfall is named best beer in Canada. And laser tag is coming back!!!!!
Over the years I have seen many people talk aabout the difficulty of finding childcare in Prince George. If you are one of the people who has experienced this, this chart from Justin McElroy will validate what you already know to be true: we have one of the lowest child-care facilitiy vacancy rates in the province.
The best beer in Canada is brewed by a pair of biologists in the Nicholson neighbourhood
Fresh of their win for best IPA at the B.C. Beer Awards, Deadfall Brewing made an even bigger splash by being named the second-ever champion of the Canada Beer Cup last night. And industry-led event, the cup pits craft brewers from across the country against each otherand Deadfall won both best American Brown and best beer overall — a title claimed last year by the Callister Brewing Company in the craft beer mecca of East Vancouver. That’s pretty cool, especially considering Deadfall just opened last year. The husband-and-wife team behind it are Erin and Brandon Baerwald, a pair of biologists who met while studying bats (they use some of their brews to support bat conservation). You can listen to an interview with Erin on CBC after their B.C. Beer win here talking about their plans after this higher profile which, for now, to continue to supply Prince George beer-lovers first and everyone else can wait — “PG deserves to have the best things,” she says. I’ll drink to that!
More from the school board
A trio of write-ups on school board chair Rachael Weber’s post-board-meeting interview on Monday, mostly focused on calls from the head of the teacher’s union for her to resign:
PG Teacher’s Union President has “lost sight of his position,” says SD57 Board Chair
“We’ll keep pushing forward for parental rights”: Weber says on policy for stronger communication.
Make Prince George laser tag again
OK, some of you probably knew this but we’re getting a laser tag place again. Game Changerz VR is posting pictures of their process of adding a laser tag arena to their which they say will be “so amazing, even Bubba Balloos would have been jealous.” For an entire generation of Prince Georgians, those are some big words — but I’m really glad a new cohort kids will get to experience shooting lasers at each other under blacklights.
