The Prince George RCMP report:
Prince George RCMP is looking to the public for help in identifying two suspects from an armed robbery that occurred just before 7:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024 at a gas station on the 8000-block of the Hart Highway.
Two suspects entered the gas station and threatened the on-duty attendant at gunpoint, smashing a gun case and stealing several of the firearms stored within. They are seen leaving the store and getting into a waiting blue pickup truck, where the third suspect was waiting. Police identified the truck as one that was stolen earlier that morning from a nearby residence; it was located a short time later unoccupied and was seized as part of the investigation.
One of the suspects has been arrested. The reason I’m highlighting this is that this is, by my count, the third time this gas station/firearms dealer has been hit in a single year.
In fact — it was almost exactly a year ago, Feb. 7 that this Husky/armoury was robbed at gunpoint, only for the suspects to be caught after they got stranded in a park. That was followed by another theft on March 31, this time while the display was being adjusted.
So, anyways, yeah it seems like this particular gun shop is a target for robberies which… not great?
They’ve updated their website to have a new logo since last time I checked.
Tracy Calogheros is stepping down from the Exploration Place
You can read about her accomplishments in her 30 years at the museum here and here. It’s a lot to be proud of, not least the work building partnerships with the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation as an official repository of cultural items in a model that has been held up as an example for other museums across the country.
My favourite anecdote from Calogheros is her noting that between the Little Prince Train and the various animals at the Exploration Place, she is not only a museum director but also the manager of Canada’s smallest train station and one of its smallest zoos. Those will be some big shoes to fill.
