First, the deer in a high-vis jacket. I wrote everything I know about it here and have all the photos I know to exist. This one from Joe Rich at the Rich Boys tow shop is definitely the best and you can definitely see it is wearing that jacket:
I don’t know what else to tell you. But when there’s a deer wearing something odd, I guess I’m on it.
The mayor decalres Christian Heritage Month
This declaration was made independently of the City of Prince George or City Council, and Yu says he hopes it can be a way to celebrate many of our community members.
“We as a community have a large population here in town that belongs to a Christian Community, we have a lot of churches, to have a month dedicated to celebrating our faith, I think it’s a good thing to strengthen the community through the people’s belief, which is a good thing,” Yu said.
The article talks to other religious groups, who have no issue with this. The full proclamation is here and this, I think, the first time the city/mayor has declared such a thing? It appears the origins of this declaration is a group/couple behind a Christian Music Festival (who are also real estate agents?) who have now made it their mission to get various cities/governments in Canada to recognize December as Christian Heritage Month and are tracking a list of cities that have done so, Prince George included. The biggest city on the list to make the declaration is Toronto, where it sparked some debate (albeit via the Toronto Sun, which tends to torque these things), with one councillor noting the loaded language of “Christian Heritage” when things like the Christian Heritage Party and Christian Front exist or existed.
Anyways, it’s not unheard of for cities/governments to declare different months for different religions — Fort St. John and the province of B.C. declare Sikh Heritage Month, November is Hindu Heritage Month in Ontario. So… yeah, there’s some context.
I am glad to see this photo — I’m not 100 per cent sure it was the same airplane in the park when I was a kid in the late 80s/90s/ but it very much matches my memory.
