On the Labour Day long weekend, I went out camping north of Bear Lake but forgot to fully charge my EV. So I was incredibly relieved to see that weekend was also the opening of a new fast charging station in Bear Lake which I quickly took advantage of. Range anxiety when headed north has been the biggest problem with having an EV — going south and east there are chargers every couple hundred kilometres but going north they have been few and far between. Until now:

That road north is looking a lot better than it did a year ago when I posted about the lack of charging stations. Plus, a new one is coming to Vanderhoof and what’s really nice is all these new ones are actually in towns as opposed to somewhere along the highway.
I did a roadtrip through the Kootenays and Alberta over the summer and the places I really liked stopping — Quesnel, 100 Mile House, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke — were the ones where the chargers were also in walking distance of shops and restaurants. In those spots, we would actually stay longer than strictly needed and spent more on nearby businesses. The places that were awful were the ones where the only option was just somewhere out of town or in a strip of nothing. Prince George itself has a decent amount of chargers but I’m not sure any of them are places I would really enjoy stopping as a tourist — though part of that points to the problem that Prince George is really spread out, overall. What the places I liked have in common is they are all decently compact, at least when it comes to shopping/dining options. More lessons that we’ll never really learn here.

This is not in Prince George but I can’t not share it.
Spotted near Mar Jok Elementary Wednesday morning, a number of people and organizations sprung into action, including RCMP, RDCO animal control, the Okanagan Humane Society, Petra’s Pawdicures and Star’s Piggly Wiggly Sanctuary.
Both pigs were secured against a fence surrounded by a soccer net, but when attempting to put them in the back of a van, one escaped and took off running across the park as kids from the nearby school cheered it on.
