Club 1177 (Lambda) is under new ownership
And ... honestly, there's a lot in this one, including a piece of shit stove for sale and a train traffic jam
After my newsletter yesterday where I offhandedly wrote the former Lambda/Club 1177 probably had a new name by now I was informed by multiple readers that, indeed, the club had changed names — but also ownership!
From reader Jo:
Just wanted to let you know that Lambda/Club 1177 is actually owned by the Belles of the Underground now! Its new name is The Underground Show Lounge and Bar, and based on the events they’ve been putting on since they announced the new ownership in August, it has vastly improved in my opinion!
Here’s their post from August 2nd:
And, indeed, they have clearly moved in a different direction — away from Freedom Convoy/Sovereign of the Land to a more burlesque direction.
Here’s a sampling of their recent photos/events:
This seems much more in keeping with the roots of this space as one of the first/northermost inclusive nightclub spaces in these parts, so I am glad to be informed!
‘We must become a hub for the arts’
My Prince George Now has the report on council accepting the ask to increase long-term arts funding in the city (as reported in Tuesday’s newsletter):
Representatives of the big four laid out their case for the funding increase.
“It’s generally estimated, of course, municipalities, depending on their size, etcetera, it’s generally between $25 and $50 per capita,” said Community Arts Council Executive Director Eli Klasner.
“Currently, the City of Prince George spends $7 per capita on arts and culture.”
…
“In my opinion, I think what we’re looking at here, there’s been a little bit of a historical error that has happened, probably for well over a decade, but we have an opportunity now to find ways to correct that error,” Klasner said.
“The crux of the matter is, in my opinion, the City of Prince George and our community, we’ve yet to develop a comprehensive arts and culture plan for the City.”
“Perhaps that is the issue here,” said Mayor Simon Yu.
“We are a transportation hub, we are the hub of Northern BC, we fancy ourselves as the northern central capital of the province, so we must become the hub for art, no question.”
Director of Facilities and Events Andy Beesley noted it is in the 2025 work plan for the Civic Initiatives and Partnerships division to “put it on the map.”
“We’re well aware that this is a deficiency and we are also well aware that we’re going to rely very heavily on our partners, including the four groups that are here, as well as other groups in the City,” he said.
The increase will be $200,000 annually, split between Theatre Northwest, the .Prince George Community Arts Council, Coldsnap Music Festival and the Prince George Symphony Orchestra.
While we’re at it, I’ve noticed that My Prince George Now — one of my go-to sources of local news and council reporting — has a new email subscription service, which is where I remind you that this newsletter relies highly on dedicated local reporters to give you these roundups so I encourage to support other outlets where and how you can!
Halloween is here???
At least on Moran Cres, where I went for a dog walk the other night. I feel like they’re making a push to be the Candy Cane Lane of October:

And here is the piece of shit stove:
Newer Kenmore stove, it came with the house, the burners all work. It needs a serious cleaning inside and out, and it looks like it needs a new element in the range. $50 and it can be your problem now.
