A correction to yesterday’s newsletter: There are three, not two, years left in the current term for mayor and council. It used to be three year terms but it’s four now and my brain didn’t adjust!
A year ago I wrote a post about being a Halloween Grinch and how I haven’t traditionally decorated my yard to mark the occasion, though I still welcome trick or treaters. After that, I spent the night watching kids pass by my house because all the neighbours had big Halloween displays and all we had was our porch light on and so this year I broke down and got a couple of inflatable decorations because apparently now kids will only come to your place for candy if it is explicitly dressed up (the cat will be inside).
To help track which neighbourhoods get the trick or treaters you can fill out this map.
I like seeing people with Halloween displays, I like other people’s costumes but I am fairly lukewarm on fireworks. I’d probably enjoy them more if they didn’t go off every other weekend — which, they aren’t supposed to under city bylaws, but tonight is fine. Here are the rules:
About those vaccination delays
I emailed the ministry of health to find out why there are no vaccination dates available for the city until December. Here’s what they told me:
Several factors may contribute to the interim limited appointment availability in some regions:
Pharmacies and health authority clinics that have appointments scheduled through November that are already fully booked.
Some pharmacies have not yet made their November appointments available. Pharmacies will continue to post appointments as they receive their additional vaccines, but they are being as careful as possible to not overbook and taking a cautious approach.
Everyone who wants a vaccination will be able to get one, but we do ask for your patience due to the high demands and additional COVID vaccines arriving weekly in the province.
New appointments are added regularly with the arrival of deliveries to pharmacies. We encourage you to check back as new appointments become available all the time.
B.C. has ordered 2.8 million COVID-19 vaccines and 2.3 million influenza vaccines for the 2023-24 respiratory season.
Northern Health is also advertising vaccination clinics for kids under 12:
Not much else for you today! I wasn’t able to watch city council so will have to catch up based on other reports/once the video is posted.
